Liceul Teoretic Experimental Waldorf
By Vladseremet
Liceul Teoretic Experimental Waldorf / Kishinev Waldorf School was founded in 1992. To this day, it remained a state school, but has hard-won educational autonomy and connected governmental demands with the Waldorf curriculum. By now, about 200 students are attending the kindergarten and the school.
Alexei Frunza was involved with the destiny of the first and only Waldorf School in Moldova like hardly any other teacher. He started as a dance teacher, but the school lacked a Eurythmy teacher. And thus, after four years at the Eurythmy School in Moscow and another year at the academy for Waldorf Education in Stuttgart (Germany), Alexei Funza became the first Eurythmist of Moldova. Through him, the employees of the Ministry of Education got to know Eurythmy by sitting in on his Eurythmy class.
Unfortunately a severe illness struck the dedicated teacher and the amputation of his leg determined his creative period as an Eurythmist. But at the same time it also marked the beginning of his employment as director of the parent foundation. That way he was able to implement many projects, drastically improving the structural situation of the school. On July 26, 2009 Alexeo Frunza passed away, but his impulses, especially the traditional dance, have become an integrated part of the school routine.
The time after 1991, when Moldova was a country on the verge of new departures due to its regained independence, was also the time when the idea for a first Waldorf School in Moldova began to develop. To a large extend the new school was educationally independent from governmental interference and thus was able to develop well year by year after 1992. At first the school only went up to grade 11, until it was decided in 2005 to establish secondary education. Since then the students are able to graduate with the Baccalaureate (A-Level).
Already quite early, the employees of the Moldavian school fostered the contact with other Waldorf Schools. And thus, school twinning were developed with Ulandshöhe Waldorf School in Stuttgart and Wetterau Waldorf School in Bad Neuheim (both Germany). Finally the school classes were able to go on trips to the partner schools. There they performed theater productions as well as dances and songs of the Moldavian culture and closer contacts were established to the partner school classes in Germany.
Up to today, Kishinev Waldorf School is the only Waldorf School in Moldova and remains dependent on help from abroad. The difficult economical situation of the country and the missing governmental aid lead to such low teacher salaries that many of them are forced to take up additional work, in order to survive. Therefore it is of utmost importance to strengthen the financial aid in the future, in order support the teachers better and thus improve the situation of the school.
