Corvallis Waldorf School
The Corvallis Waldorf School is proud to be an independent, not-for-profit educational organization. Unlike public or charter schools, independent schools receive no funding from the government.
Our funding comes from family tuition, community donations, and grants. We welcome students of all nationalities, ethnicities, and spiritual backgrounds. The Four Pillars is a model for interdependent and cooperative governance and decision-making. They include, the School board, Faculty and Staff, Administration and Family-Volunteer committees. It takes a village to raise a child, and these entities assist in organizing our village.
To educate independent thinking people who meet life with courage and respond with initiative and creativity to the needs of the world and their fellow human beings.
Our Waldorf Ways
Since its founding by Rudolf Steiner in 1919, the Waldorf school movement has grown to over 1000 schools throughout the world, over 150 of them in the United States and Canada. Waldorf education balances artistic, academic and practical work with intent of educating the whole child; head, heart and hands. Its innovative methodology and development-oriented curriculum, permeated with the arts, address the child’s changing consciousness as it unfolds, stage by stage. Imagination and creativity are cultivated, as well as cognitive growth and a sense of responsibility for the earth and its inhabitants. For more detailed information about this educational methodology go to http://www.whywaldorfworks.org/.
This school started in 1993 in the homes of a few very dedicated and inspired parents in Corvallis. It grew to several classes and was hosted in a community church. When a full curriculum and multiple grades were developed, the school moved to the Corvallis School District, Fairplay Elementary building, located Northeast of Corvallis on HWY 20. Today we serve students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade, and have a year around Little Acorns Parent Child Program as well as a Summer Program. We are growing, and welcoming more students each year as we continue to bring strong and vibrant educational opportunities to the children of the Corvallis, Albany, Philomath, Jefferson, Monmouth and surrounding areas.
